This is Russ and Megan.
This is Ron and Sandy
This is where we met. Yes, for those of you who recognize the place this is Wilmorite Park, in our hamlet of Webster. I went there to see how things were going, since we first began work there two years ago. You may recall we as a church took on a mission project not aimed at gaining or growing, but simply being Christ in the communnity. Upon reading Glynis LaBarre's book, Learning Mission, Living Mission , she mentions continuing to journey with a project you have started. So I realized it was time to go back.
But before I ever got in the park I had a profound spiritual exprerince talking with these two men. Russ and Ron have lived in this community for over forty years. And they both take pride in there neighborhood and this park. Russ will occasionally mow the grass with his riding lawn mower and Ron goes out picking up trash as it gets left by patrons of the park. So I said how have things been with the use of the park now, at which Ron said, "its getting better use now. More people are using it." I would walk out later picking up a can here and paper over there, not much Ron had done a good job.
But listening to there satisfaction of what has been done and suggestions of things which could be added was just amazing. In this moment I understood the need of driving over or walking into this community to have continued connectons, once again. I got so much more, walking in the park, seeing the equipment of play and talking to these men. I really took pride in seeing and knowing the basketball court, Nathan Pucko's senior project, looked great and was being used! There is renewal in this park and we are challenged to keep making these connections with neighbors in our very community.
